Workshop on Active Learning in Literacy Classrooms

Learning is Fun............. A Workshop on Active Learning in Literacy Classrooms. 

It was an enriching experience  for the teachers of English Department to attend a three days workshop on "Active Learning in Literacy Classrooms" at American Centre, New Delhi from 21 May,2015 to 23 May,2015.The workshop was organized by Regional English Language office(RELO).The resource person was Dr. Spencer Salas an English Language  Specialist from the university  of Carolina, USA.
In the three days workshop the participants individually and collaboratively explore literacy instruction that leverages adolescents' lived experiences in generative ways. Representative activities include hands on practice with talking, reading and writing- to-learned their potential for motivating adolescents engagement with classroom texts. The three days were power packed with grueling tasks and activities so as to Think, Pair and Share and all this motivated everyone to put up their ideas and views together and present the same in innovative ways. Our English teachers, Ms. Shashi Pant, Ms. Neha Kohli and Ms. Arnika took part enthusiastically and presented their tasks which were applauded by everyone.
The resource person emphasized on transforming prose and poetry classes into interesting and active class for the benefit of students in varied ways. It was a thrilling experience to learn, relearn and participate in the activities like Gallery Walk, Walls have Ears, Memory Game, Annotated Reading, Role Play, Tableau, Sound Tracking Texts Fryer Diagram, Word Map and Word Walls. All the activities proved to be a boon and a great help for the teachers community as they could be incorporated  in the day to day classes. Teachers shared their amazing experiences in teaching different genres of English. All of us once again look forward to  more meaningful workshops in near future as well.

CBSE WorkShop for Class XI

Along with keeping oneself updated with the changing trend of education and evaluation, it has become utmost important that the teaching pedagogy is innovative, interesting and interactive.

To enlighten and motivate the students of class XI, G.D. Goenka Model Town conducted an interactive session with renowned academician, educationist and a seasoned speaker Mr. Sandeep Sethi (Education Officer, CBSE) on 29th July, 2015.

The workshop began with the floral welcome of the guest by our Principal Ma`am, Ms. Rima C. Aliawadi.  Mr. Sethi began with introduction of the students and their future plans. His question “How would you like to be taught in class?” was indeed mind boggling for students.

Students and teachers gave their responses. Mr. Sandeep Sethi spoke about the various methods that would make teaching livelier and shared his experiences of teaching stint. Role play, dramas, exhibitions, comic strips etc are the ways which can make the learning quick and easy to comprehend. He also laid emphasis on the use of audio-visual aids in class.  He discussed about various modules designed for Mathematics and other subjects. He culminated his session by giving an opportunity to students to plan for commerce exhibition in our school.

The expert speaker specially focused on the core areas of Business Studies, Mathematics, Accountancy and Entrepreneurship. Later teachers also cleared their doubts in a congenial interaction with him. 


Workshop by Dr. G S Grewal

On 23rd July, 2016, Accountancy workshop was conducted by Dr. (CA) G. S. Grewal and Mr. R. K. Khosla at G.D. Goenka Public School, Model Town. Over 200 teachers from North Delhi participated in the workshop. It was indeed a wonderful workshop where Dr. Grewal  and Mr. Khosla interacted with the teachers and shared their thoughts.

Workshop on Cyber Security

Virtual World: It’s not a game, it’s your life stay safe!

A workshop on Cyber Crime was conducted at G.D.Goenka Public School, Model Town on 3rd September,2016 to apprise students ,teachers and parents of the various cyber crimes and its precarious effects. The workshop was conducted by director A&R Info Security Solutions Pvt Ltd, Mr. Rakshit Tandon, who combats combat cyber crime in association with various government and non-government agencies. He informed students of various kinds of cyber crimes committed in today’s world of modern gadgets which includes cyber bullying, unethical hacking, E-frauds and many more. He focused on cyber crimes, threats and how one can secure oneself from them. He put forth facts and figures relating to the use of internet, CERT annual report and Norton crime report. He also shared cases that saw young students involved in cyber crime.

The latter half of the session focused on how to secure Facebook accounts, mobiles phones, WhatsApp and Gmail accounts. He concluded the session by motivating students and parents to be secure and alert while going online. The talk was followed by an interactive session.

Art and Craft Workshop for students

A Craft workshop was organised for classes III- V on 6th February 2017. The workshop was taken by art and craft expert Ms Alka Gabba from NIE Times of India Group . The students learnt to make 3D puppets, flying bird on stick and paper cutting flowers using pastel sheets and sticks.

Paper craft was a break from regular classes and the hands on experience revived the enthusiasm of the teaching learning process. The paper puppets and flying birds spread liveliness and its charm within students.

The students were amused with the easy paper work craft and treasured the work by taking it home. The paper craft adorn the walls and boards of the classes and spread its radiance and a sense of achievement in the students. The workshop got an overwhelming response from the students and teachers too.
